Description

Pboy (civilly known as Pascal Boyart) above all focuses on the replication of the classic works of European art history, enmeshing them within contemporary narratives, for example: Eugène Delacroix's Liberty Leading the People—wearing yellow work vests. Or Gustave Courbet's The Desperate Man pulling at his hair because of his bank statement. In Pboy's own case, to prevent things from ever coming to that the artist began early on to integrate the possibilities of digital monetization in his art. Via the QR code attached to his pictures, fans can give him donations—in the digital currency Bitcoin, of course. In Pboy's piece for the Urban Art Biennale 2022, we see the three graces from Greek mythology—a popular motif throughout art history—standing together on a floor covered with medical masks, which are an all too familiar sight in this Age of Corona. The masks pour from the painting onto the floor of the Möllerhalle, like a gracious gift of the minor deities. Visitors are invited to take a souvenir with them—who knows when the next mask mandate will come.
